3D Electric is a Commercial Electrician team for shops, offices, pole buildings and multi-tenant properties across Southeast Michigan. We are a family-owned, licensed and insured electrical contractor based in Belleville, with about two decades in the trade. Our Commercial Electrician service covers the power a business runs on: the service and meters, the panels and feeders, the lighting and the backup power behind it all.

A business has different stakes than a house. A dead circuit can stop a register, a cooler or a whole tenant. We plan commercial electrical services around your hours, quote the work in writing before it starts and clean up before we leave. For home projects and the rest of our trade work, see the full list of electrical services from 3D Electric.

Lectro's tip

Before you call, take a photo of your meter and your main panel label. It often answers the first question about your service size.

Commercial Electrical Services We Handle

Most commercial calls fall into a few groups. Each one starts with a look at what the building has now and what it needs to carry next.

Services, meters and disconnects

New or larger electric service, meter sockets, CT cabinets and the disconnects for each unit. This is the work in the photos on this page: meter banks and disconnect rows on metal and sided buildings.

Panels, feeders and new circuits

Subpanels for a shop or a tenant space, feeders between buildings, and new circuits for equipment, compressors, ovens or welders. When an old panel is full or failing, our panel upgrade work is often the first step.

Lighting inside and out

Office and shop fixtures, exterior wall packs and parking or yard lighting. See our lighting installation page for fixture and control options.

Repairs and troubleshooting

A tripped feeder, a breaker that will not reset or a circuit that runs hot gets the same method we use at homes. We make it safe, test to find the cause, explain it and quote the repair. More on that is on our electrical troubleshooting and repair page.

Multi-Tenant Buildings and Meter Banks

Strip centers, small apartment buildings and shared pole buildings need one meter and one disconnect per unit. Each tenant gets their own bill, and each space can be shut off on its own. Getting the layout right on day one saves a lot of rework when a tenant changes.

  • Meter bank layout. We size the gutter, the sockets and the disconnects to the units you have, with room to label each one clearly.

  • Unit labels. Every meter and disconnect is marked to match its unit, so the utility and the next electrician read it the same way.

  • Utility work. New meters and service changes need the utility, which is DTE Energy for most of our area. We handle the electrical side and coordinate the visit with you.

  • Growth room. If a building may add a unit later, we talk about leaving space for it now.

For the full process of a service change, from the request to the reconnect, see our electric service upgrade page.

How a Commercial Job Goes

  1. Call or send the quote form. Tell us the address, what the building is used for and what you need done.

  2. Site visit. We look at the service, the meters, the panels and the space where the new work goes.

  3. Written estimate. You get a detailed estimate before any work starts, with no hidden charges.

  4. Permit. Your city or township building department issues the electrical permit. Confirm current requirements for your address; the permit and inspection are part of the plan we quote.

  5. Shutdown plan. If the power has to go off, we agree on the time with you in advance.

  6. Install and inspection. We do the work, test it, clean up and meet the inspector.

Office hours are Monday to Friday, 7 am to 5 pm, and 24-hour emergency service is available. Tell us your opening hours and your slow times when you ask for the quote, and we build the schedule around them.

Work Scheduled Around Your Hours

Most commercial work happens while the business stays open. We keep work areas contained, keep walkways clear and cover floors where we work. Most new circuits and lighting can go in without a full shutdown.

A panel swap, a meter change or a service upgrade does need the power off. We plan those for the quietest part of your week and tell you how long the building will be dark. If a cooler, a server closet or a sump pump cannot lose power, say so early. We can plan around it or talk about temporary power.

Surge Protection and Backup Power for a Business

Two add-ons come up often on commercial jobs. Both protect the equipment a business depends on.

Surge protection at the panel

Lightning, utility switching and big motors cycling on and off all send spikes through the wiring. A surge protective device at the main panel guards registers, computers, controls and refrigeration in one place. Our whole house surge protection page explains how a panel-mounted protector works, and the same idea applies to a shop or office.

Standby generators

Some businesses cannot afford to go dark. A standby generator with an automatic transfer switch starts on its own when utility power fails. We install and service Generac, Honeywell and Kohler standby generators. Our commercial generator installation page covers what to plan, and sizing depends on your building, so it is scoped at a site visit.

  • Photos of the electric meter and the main panel with the door open and the label visible

  • The service size and voltage, and whether the building has single-phase or three-phase power, if you know them

  • A short description of the work, plus drawings if they exist

  • When the work needs to be done and when the building can be shut down

Commercial quotes are free. Use our free quote request form or call (734) 697-8477 during office hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • A commercial electrician installs and repairs the electrical systems in businesses. That includes the service and meters, panels and feeders, lighting, equipment circuits and backup power. The work follows the same electrical code as homes, with larger loads and more planning around business hours.

  • Yes. We install meter banks, CT cabinets and a disconnect for each unit on multi-tenant and multi-family buildings. Each meter and disconnect is labeled to match its unit. New meters also involve your utility, which we coordinate with you.

  • Most of it, yes. New circuits and lighting usually go in without a full shutdown. Panel swaps and service changes need the power off, so we plan those with you ahead of time for your quietest hours.

  • Most commercial electrical work needs a permit from your city or township building department, followed by an inspection. Requirements vary by address, so confirm them for your building. The permit and inspection steps are part of the plan we quote.

  • Yes. We install and service Generac, Honeywell and Kohler standby generators with automatic transfer switches. The right size depends on which loads must keep running, so we scope it at a site visit.
